SOUTH YARMOUTH — Sylvia S. (Breed) Bumpus, of
South Yarmouth, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at her home in South
Yarmouth surrounded by her loving family.
She
was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Bumpus.
Mrs. Bumpus was one of three children of the late
Dr. William and Ruth (Williams) Breed. She was a graduate of the Windsor
School and received a degree in Fine Arts from Radcliffe College.
Mrs. Bumpus worked as an advertising copywriter and
layout/pasteup artist at RH Stearns, where she met her husband Robert.
She also worked at King's Department Stores and several other firms, as
well as a volunteer for MSPCC Cape Cod and the Retired Seniors Volunteer
Program, where she was an active participant in Computers for Seniors.
An avid bridge player, Mrs. Bumpus was a longtime
member of the Dennis-Yarmouth Senior Citizens Duplicate Bridge Club. She
also enjoyed playing tennis, computers, reading and traveling to many
countries in Europe and Latin America.
Mrs.
Bumpus was a multifaceted individual with many interests and talents.
She was always receptive to new adventures and she lived a full life,
bringing joy to all who were fortunate to know her.
Mrs. Bumpus is survived by a son, William B. Bumpus
of Somerville; a daughter, Sarah E. Bumpus of Maui, Hawaii; a sister,
Elizabeth Clark of Washington, D.C.; a brother, William Breed of Park
City, Utah; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and
friends; and her faithful dog, Quinn.
A
memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Thirwood
Place, 237 North Main St., South Yarmouth. Relatives and friends are
kindly invited to attend.
